Community & People
Our partners 4africa engages in multi-year community relationships far beyond just providing a clean water source. As such, we advocate communities’ deep participation and management of the WASH (Water Access, Sanitation and Hygiene) program initiatives and infrastructures. As our water team works to provide access to clean water, our health team equips, trains, and mentors communities on sanitation and hygiene best practices as well as preventative health education—when done together, improved health and lasting impact exponentially increase..

Project Description
Located in a remote region of Northern Uganda and ravaged by extreme poverty, famine, and civil unrest, Omoro is one of the country’s most vulnerable and underserved districts. Sadly, just over half of Omoro’s population (57.52%) has access to safe and clean water. The UN’s water coverage benchmark for Sub-Saharan Africa is 75%; however, the average in the region is 61%. Therefore, the district is severely behind the UN benchmark and still behind the average of surrounding areas. In northern Uganda, and specifically in Omoro, there are currently no organizations fully implementing WASH services. Omoro was also severely impacted by the Lord’s Resistance Army militia as Joseph Kony led attacks on villages in Omoro District at the beginning of the millennium.
Generosity.org is helping to overcome these challenges. Projects sponsored in Peru are a significant part of the long-term rehabilitation of this beautiful nation.
Our water program hinges on a Community-Based Management System (CBMS) involving government, schools, hospitals, churches, and community leaders. The foundation of the CBMSs entail reinstating or mobilizing water user committees or community-based organizations to take full responsibility and ownership of their wells with activities aimed to ensurefunctionality, maintenance, and proper usage of the water pointsprovided for the community.
